The Motor Industry Association (MIA) says October is traditionally a strong month for new vehicle sales and while ahead of the same period 2020 they were well behind October returns in each of the years from 2016 to 2019 inclusive.

New car registrations have continued their steady run so far in 2021, but due to stock restrictions caused by the ongoing semiconductor shortage, they are still behind pre-pandemic sales figures we would traditionally expect to see this time of year.

Toyota NZ says its electrified vehicles continue to perform strongly with its new hybrid sales coming in at 42 per cent of its overall October total.

Overall sales of new vehicles of 13,870 last month were up by 16.8 per cent, or by 1,994 units, compared toOctober 2020.
// Second-hand trade takes hit
Dealers sold 15,123 second-hand cars to the public last month. That was down by 21.1 per cent compared to 19,172 units in the same month of last year.
// Ford Ranger tops October sales as supply issues continue
October, a traditionally strong month for new vehicle registrations in New Zealand, has continued to be just that, with the Motor Industry Association posting strong sales figures for the month.
